Colorwerks. Just What the Name Suggests.
Colorwerks is our new collection of unabashedly factory-made tile that taps into a precise, industrial vibe.
These highest-quality modern standards come in a cornucopia of hues, sizes, and even finishes. The result: an almost-infinite range of aesthetic expression, from monochrome to color blocking to mosaic effects... all for creating your own work of art.
And the best part? Made of stoneware, not typical ceramic clay, our Colorwerks does double-duty as a design surface that plays as well outside as in.
Think of it as having all the versatility of classic subway tile — but with an explosion of color and the endurance of stoneware. Colorwerks is playful and unfettered from the traditional notions of what utilitarian tile should be.
A Modernist Design Sensibility
Alongside smaller-format Lido, this freeze-thaw rated, heat and UV resistant tile is ideal for pools (even submerged).
But it’s hard to think of an area (indoors or out) that couldn’t use Colorwerks (though always check material guidelines for specific usages which may vary by finish and color). It’s also hard to imagine a design theme it wouldn’t fit into: it has its place in sensibilities ranging from classic to ultra-modernist to midcentury, maximalist and playful, and full-on 70’s glamour.
A Wealth of Moods and Hues
Inspired by masters of color such as Mondrian, Albers, Klee, Kelly; directors Wes Anderson, Kurosawa, Miyazaki — and even larger-than-life personalities like the late Iris Apfel — the Colorwerks palette includes 34 colors (and counting). To simplify things, they’re grouped into 9 families: dialed back and neutral Solace; mid century-influenced Chromatope; moody blue/green Frea; sunny Alegria; sweet Duette; playful Fondant; and organic-toned (with a ‘70s vibe) Helios.
The range of sizes also unlocks possibilities for design and pattern: spanning the smaller-format 2x2” pixies (mounted) to 8x8” grandes. Stick with a given size, mix and match, use the smaller sizes for curves and doorways, create patterns unseen before: the only limit is imagination.
In the world of outdoor surfaces and pools, chromatic choice (in the US at least) has typically been constrained — and thus restrained.
Colorwerks puts paid to all that.
Finishing Touches: Textures for Walls and Floors, Wet and Dry
Colorwerks’ versatility extends beyond hue: gloss, matte, matte grip, and matte flooring textures allow the tile to be used on floors (slippery and less so) along with walls. Function may dictate the day, but the interplay of gloss and textured matte can extend design options further, even in the most monochrome of palettes. Venture forth.
Creative, vibrant, modern, energetic, precise. A spontaneous party at the museum.
